WHEN TO CALL CENTURY-AIRPORT PEDIATRICS



Before calling the answering service to reach the doctor on call, please review the following and call if immediate medical attention is indicated as defined below:

FEVER: * Temperature of 100.3° F in a child less than 2 months of age * Temperature of 102° F for six straight hours * Temperature of 102° F or higher with frequent cough or diarrhea * Temperature of 102° F or higher with pain while urination or swollen joints


COUGH: * Every 10 minutes or less without a break * More than 4 or 5 coughs in a row repeatedly* Inability to drink or sleep due to cough


DEHYDRATION: * Dry lips/mouth and lethargic with frequent vomiting and/or diarrhea, or NO urination for greater than 12 hours


TRAUMA: * Open wound, confusion, and/ or vomiting twice * Loss of consciousness or amnesia

OTHER: * Anytime a child is confused or can’t sleep from pain * Severe allergic reactions (tongue, lip or throat symptoms) * Seizure or convulsions * Purple spreading rashes * Respiratory distress (unusual breathing very hard or very fast) * Extreme irritability (crying for over 20 minutes) Other calls can probably wait until the following day. When we are not in the office, one of our doctors is available for emergencies by calling our answering service at 695-7015 (expect a return call within 10 min.). Please try to call during office hours whenever possible.
